Healthwatch England - Volunteering to make a difference
Rizqa moved to Hereford from Indonesia four years ago. She volunteers for Healthwatch Herefordshire and enjoys making a difference in people’s lives.
"I met someone from Healthwatch at a community event. I just asked if they needed any more help, and they said yes," she says
Rizqa volunteers for several different causes, including twice a week with Healthwatch Herefordshire. She enjoys helping people improve their wellbeing and live a healthy and happy life.
"I’ve been volunteering since I was a teenager. I like to do it because I know a lot of people need help. Even when I was younger, I’d prefer to help others than hang out with my friends," she says.
"I like chatting with people and helping them solve their problems. For example, I can help people book appointments if they can’t use their GP’s booking system or if they need help finding a service in the community".
Rizqa has also passed on her passion for volunteering to her daughter. She believes it is important to teach young people to care for others.
"We need to care about other people. If we care about others, then we will learn how to share, understand, and accept others, and the world will be a better place."
